The US Patent and Trademark Office announced on Wednesday a new Apple patent that describes an inductive charging headset. Although AirPods and AirPower are not mentioned in the patent, a wireless charging box similar to AirPods is clearly shown on an AirPower-like charging board illustration.

Many current-sensing charging boards require smart phones or other devices to be accurately positioned with the on-board coils for the most efficient power transfer. However, as Apple Insider points out, Apple's patent describes a new way to charge the AirPods charging box anywhere on the wireless charging pad.
Apple's solution is to use a pair of small charging coils in the lower left and lower right corners of the AirPods wireless charging box. Both coils are capable of receiving charge from the charging pad, effectively doubling the probability of being at the optimal charging position of the wireless charging pad.
At the September 2017 launch, Apple introduced AirPower for the first time. At the time, Apple promised to launch AirPower sometime in 2018, but time to enter 2019, Apple has not officially launched this product.
Last year, a report showed that AirPower encountered some technical problems, and Apple may postpone the release of this wireless charging pad. Recent reports say that Apple has overcome these problems, and its suppliers have begun mass production of AirPower, and there are rumors that the product is about to be released. Just a few days ago, analyst Guo Mingxi said that AirPower and AirPods wireless charging boxes will be launched in the first half of 2019.

A number of sources said that Apple will hold a press conference at the Steve Jobs Theatre on March 25th, but it is widely expected that Apple's news subscription and video services will be the theme of the conference, and it is unlikely to release new hardware.
