The best new features of the Galaxy S9 and S9 +

After months of rumors and speculation, the announcement of the Galaxy S9 and S9 + finally took place Novelties are already available for pre-order in Russia - but there are so many talks about these devices that it's not surprising that you could miss something. That's why we decided to collect all the coolest features of the new flagships in one article.
Although both devices are very similar to last year's models, do not let yourself be deceived: they hide a number of serious updates, including significantly improved cameras, useful design changes (finally the fingerprint scanner is easy to use!) And new features. Let's go over this to all at once.

Camera

Already in the first teaser of the new Galaxy S, the focus was on the camera - and not for nothing. Both models S9 and S9 + equipped with a significantly improved camera with the choice of aperture and shooting video in slo-mo at a speed of 960 frames per second. In this case, S9 + also received a second telephoto lens, which provides an optical zoom without loss of quality and makes excellent portraits.
The variable diaphragm, of course, has become the main feature of the new cameras. It can be adjusted from f / 1.5 to f / 2.4 depending on the shooting conditions. When shooting in the shadows, S9 opens the aperture to f / 1.5 to capture more light in the frame - this also helps with high-frame video shooting.
Super slow-motion shooting is another S9 and S9 + chip. Thanks to the new DRAM chip in the cameras, both smartphones are capable of recording video at 720p at a speed of 960 frames per second. The shooting takes place in 0.2 seconds, which then stretches to 6 seconds, creating a slow motion effect. Since the recording time is so limited, there is an automatic motion detection function so that the recording starts clearly at the right time. If you are not satisfied with the effect, you can always apply it to another part of the video in Gallery .
Finally, the latest innovation here - the ability to shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second - but there is one but . Unfortunately, this mode is limited to only 5 minutes of recording. Previously, this restriction was applied to shooting in 4K with a frequency of 30 fps video, now the same restrictions were imposed for shooting in 4K @ 60 fps. The company did not provide an accurate explanation, but it can be assumed that this is safety. Most likely, when shooting in this resolution for a long time, the processor heats up too much - and this decision is quite reasonable to suppress.

Design

In this regard, as already mentioned, the Galaxy S9 line did not go far from its predecessors. New smartphones have become a continuation of the already formed direction in the design of Samsung, so it looks almost the same as the Galaxy S8. The frames became slightly thinner, and the sensors above the display became slightly less prominent, but the most significant - and perhaps the best - change in design was the movement of the fingerprint scanner to the main camera module.
We (and together with us and thousands of users) have repeatedly berated the Galaxy S8 for the extremely unfortunate location of the fingerprint scanner. He was not just not in the center, but he was also dangerously close to the camera: to slap the lens instead of unlocking the device is simpler. This time the arrangement is much more convenient: it is easy for them to use any hand, and to clean the camera from prints will have to be much rarer.

Bixby has become smarter

In the standard application, the cameras integrated Bixby Vision support. Thanks to the instant translation function, you can learn the translation of the sign in an unknown language by simply pointing the smartphone camera at it. This eliminates the need to run a separate application - for example, a translator from Google. A simple switch allows you to switch from a normal camera to an intelligent mode. Bixby Vision can be used even to get information about the nutritional value of your dinner, if you point the camera at food. Although this is just an experimental feature, it's great that Samsung is working on integrating smart functions into applications, and not exclusively on Bixby.

Selfimogi

- they are AR Emoji - they are Samsung's answer to Animoji. And, according to the Koreans , they were not looking for Apple at Apple. Compare them is not easy: in some ways AR Emoji is more complex and complex, and in some ways inferior to Animoji. With selfmage, you are not limited to a few emoticons that are available for animation. In fact, Galaxy S9 can make an avatar even from your appearance ... or at least try. In theory, everything works just fine. Direct the front camera to yourself, take a photo, the image is scanned and the system creates a unique 3D avatar that looks like you. The problem is that the result is not always similar, although you can always spend more time adjusting individual parameters to adjust the 3D model for you.
Another problem with AR Emoji is that, like Animoji, they mimic the expression of your face. But due to the fact that neither S9 nor S9 + are equipped with 3D face scanning technology, your avatar will move differently than you, because the plane is scanned, and not a 3D object, as in the case with True Depth. Nevertheless, with salfimoggi it is still quite interesting to experiment - and from them you can make animated stickers and send to your friends.

Improved performance

The new flagships were updated to the current Snapdragon 845 processor (or Exynos 9810 in some countries), while the Galaxy S9 + also received 6 GB of RAM (in S8 + was 4 GB). The battery capacity has not changed since last year, but Samsung promises to increase the battery life thanks to new, more energy-efficient processors.
